Studies on the variability and inheritance in a Gorce population of the Karelian birch (Betula pendula Roth. var. carelica, Merklin/Hejtmanek)

, : Studies on the variability and inheritance in a Gorce population of the Karelian birch (Betula pendula Roth. var. carelica, Merklin/Hejtmanek). Kornik Arboretum 18: 35-81

Biometrical analyses of studies conducted over nine years were made on the differences between the Karelian birch and the common birch. The trunk of the Karelian birch was taller and of a greater diameter than that of the common birch and showed characteristic spindle-like thickenings which appeared to be controlled by a single dominant gene. Karelian birch also had shorter and thinner seed catkins than the common birch.
