Studies on the variation in total leaf number in flue-cured tobacco

, : Studies on the variation in total leaf number in flue-cured tobacco. Bulletin of the Okayama Tobacco Experiment Station (31): 1-62

From the results of experiments with the flue-cured tobacco Hicks Iwata-2 and Bright Yellow and surveys in various tobacco-growing areas of Japan, it was concluded that premature flowering was caused when old seedlings (12-leaf stage) were transplanted when temperatures were low. Plants produced more leaves in areas where the diurnal temperature range was greater and high temperatures during the day inhibited flower initiation.
