Studies on the varietal reaction and physiologic specialization of Sphacelotheca reiliana (Kuhn) Clinton, head smut of sorghum

, : Studies on the varietal reaction and physiologic specialization of Sphacelotheca reiliana (Kuhn) Clinton, head smut of sorghum. Mysore Journal of Agricultural Sciences 5(4): 377-382

Of twelve varieties tested for reaction to S. reiliana, Nandyal, IS84, Karad local, M35-1, D0531-21B and CHS1 were all resistant. Monosporic isolates of the pathogen from two collections producing different symptom expressions in the host differed in their cultural characteristics. These differences indicate the possible existence of physiological races of S. reiliana. Of 12 sorghum vars. tested against S. reiliana, Nandyal, I.S.-84, Karad local, M.35-1, D.531-21B and CHS-1 were resistant.
