Study of the passage of water across the wall of the omasum in sheep

, : Study of the passage of water across the wall of the omasum in sheep. Annales de Recherches Veterinaires 3(4): 651-663

The simultaneous use of the unabsorbed reference substance polyethylene glycol 4000 with a radio-active substance, tritiated water (HTO), makes it possible to study the influence of osmotic pressure on the movements of water into and out of the omasum, isolated by ligatures. In vitro, variation of osmotic pressure between 200 and 400 mOsm/l, using solutions of NaCl or D-mannitol, does not cause significant differences in net water flux.
