Techniques for measurement of latewood in central African Pine timber

, : Techniques for measurement of latewood in central African Pine timber. Rhodesian Journal of Agricultural Research 10(2): 169-181

In preliminary studies on a sample of 30-year-old Pinus patula from Rhodesia, the radial width of annual rings and late-wood increments was measured by (a) a millimetre rule (to the nearest 0.5 mm) and (b) a stereoscopic microscope of 20 X magnification with a travelling stage coupled to a dial gauge (to the nearest 0.001 in), and in microtome sections by (c) a 50 X microscope with a filar micrometer.
