The antihypercholesterolemic property of candicidin and its mode of action in cockerels

, : The antihypercholesterolemic property of candicidin and its mode of action in cockerels. Nutrition Reports International 9(4): 245-258

Crossbred cockerels 8 and 14 weeks old were fed to appetite on diets containing 0.8% cholesterol and 3% maize oil with or without 0.075 or 0.04% candicidin, an antifungal antibiotic. After 3 weeks on the diets, 10 birds in each group were given capsules containing 2 mu Ci cholic acid-14C and 6 mu Ci beta -sitosterol-3H. In the other 6 birds in each group, total daily excreta and feed intake were measured.
