The effect of organochlorine pesticides on the organism of animals

, : The effect of organochlorine pesticides on the organism of animals. Veterinariya, Moscow, USSR (12): 94-95

As organochlorine compounds are used as acaricides on livestock in Turkmenia (Soviet Union), studies were made in 1972 of their effects on the immunological response of animals. DDT was given to rats in their food at 500 mg/kg body weight and gamma BHC was given at 500 and 1000 mg. The clinical symptoms of poisoning in the rats are described, and details are given of haematological investigations, which included chiefly the determination of the phagocytic capacity of the leucocytes.
