The orientation and food plant selection of the carrot fly, Psila rosae F. (Diptera: Psilidae). II. Adults

, : The orientation and food plant selection of the carrot fly, Psila rosae F. (Diptera: Psilidae). II. Adults. Zeitschrift fur Angewandte Entomologie 70(1): 29 - 61

The orientation of freshly emerged adults of Psila rosae (F.) to the surface of the soil is influenced by gravity and, in the topmost layer, by light. The flies then move to surrounding trees or bushes, apparently attracted towards the highest silhouette. A comparison of marked and unmarked flies confirmed that the range of dispersion is comparatively restricted.
