Transport across the region of fusion between bean (Vicia faba) and broomrape (Orobanche crenata)

, : Transport across the region of fusion between bean (Vicia faba) and broomrape (Orobanche crenata). Symposium on Parasitic Weeds, Malta, 1973: 154-166

A rapid transport of materials including sugars, herbicides and water was observed across the fusion region of host and parasite. 2,4-D, applied as a foliage spray, was concentrated by the parasite to several times its concn. in the host. Sugars and herbicides were carried rather slowly down the bean stem from leaves to roots, prior to their uptake by the parasite, whilst water was taken up very rapidly by the parasite from bean roots.
