Wilson's disease: identification of an abnormal copper-binding protein

, : Wilson's disease: identification of an abnormal copper-binding protein. Science, USA 181(4105): 1175-1176

The metal-binding protein metallothionein was isolated from the livers of patients with Wilson's disease and controls. The metals were removed from the native protein to produce the apoprotein, and copperthionein was prepared by equilibrium dialysis.
