An investigation of the relationship between adult and juvenile growth in Pinus sylvestris L

, : An investigation of the relationship between adult and juvenile growth in Pinus sylvestris L. Sweden, Foreningen Skogstradsforadling, Institutet for Skogsforbattring: Yearbook 1976, Association for Forest Tree Breeding, Institute of Forest Improvement: 170-188

Plants from 13 test families from open-pollinated progenies were examined during 1968-75. Height growth was rapid during the 10-15-year period, mostly over 0.5 m per year. The mean height for all progenies was 5.21 m after 15 years, which exceeded the average of trees from local populations by 0.79 m. Despite only small differences in height growth between families at age 15, it was possible to predict accurately, at the juvenile stage, the fastest and slowest-growing families.
