Biochemical changes in egg-plant (Solanum melongena) due to insecticidal sprays in relation to the mite incidence

, : Biochemical changes in egg-plant (Solanum melongena) due to insecticidal sprays in relation to the mite incidence. Indian Journal of Experimental Biology 14(5): 639-640

When 0.1% acephate, 0.05% chlorfenvinphos, 0.07% endosulfan, 0.1% phosalone, 0.1% monocrotophos, 0.05% dicrotophos, or a mixture of carbaryl with molasses at 0.1% were applied in sprays in the field in Tamil Nadu to egg plant (Solanum melongena) for the control of Leucinodes orbonalis Gn., the numbers of mites (Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisd.)) found on the leaves 20 days after treatment averaged 33.87, 26.8, 23.9, 14.6, 8.5, 6.13 and 4.9/cm2, respectively, as compared with 43.2/cm2 for no treatment. It is suggested from analyses of the constituents of the leaves from treated plants that changes in the phenolics, sugars and minerals had an effect on the mite populations.
