Biological basis for the date of transfer of egg-type pullets

, : Biological basis for the date of transfer of egg-type pullets. Sbornik Nauchnykh Trudov Vsesoyuznyi Nauchno Issledovatel' skii i Tekhnologicheskii Institut Ptitsevodstva 41: 3-7

2800 birds of White Leghorn line C288 and 920 birds of the Start hybrid were used. Day-old chicks in pens were randomly assigned to 5 groups which were transferred to battery cages at 9, 13, 17 or 20 wk of age, the 5th group remaining in the pen and serving as control. Adult body weights of birds transferred to cages at 9, 13 or 17 wk of age did not differ from those of controls, but birds transferred at 20 wk weighed 23% less (P<0.05).
