Biological effects of methyl mercury in aquatic systems on mallards and scaup

, : Biological effects of methyl mercury in aquatic systems on mallards and scaup. Dissertation Abstracts International 36B(6): 2542

Feeding experiments with mallards indicate that consumption of methyl mercury can lower both survival and reproduction. Lethal effects were observed after both male and female mallards consumed 60.3 plus or minus 13.4 mg of methyl mercuric chloride at varied doses above 0.5 mg per day over a 120-day period. Reduction in hatchability of eggs and survival of ducklings were observed at doses less than 0.5 mg per day.
