Gives results of comparative trials in Soviet Moldavia in 1966-73 aimed at determining the best way of establishing plantations of Fagus sylvatica. Three methods of site preparation were compared, viz. partial manual cultivation of strips 1 m wide, partial mechanized cultivation of strips 4 m wide, and complete mechanized cultivation.
