Biology and control of velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti Medic.)

, : Biology and control of velvetleaf (Abutilon theophrasti Medic.). Minutes of the 28th Meeting, Canada Weed Committee, Eastern Section: 46-48

The morphology, reproductive capacity and distribution of A. theophrasti are described. In field and glasshouse studies, most of the A. theophrasti seeds in the top inch of soil germinated while only 35% germination occurred at the 2-inch depth and very little germination occurred below 3 inches. In a competititon study, barley reduced A. theophrasti (d.m.) by 83% but A. theophrasti did not reduce barley yields.
