Biology of the Egyptian alfalfa weevil in Khuzestan, southwestern province of Iran

, : Biology of the Egyptian alfalfa weevil in Khuzestan, southwestern province of Iran. Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 712: 196-198

The life-cycle of Hypera brunneipennis (Boh.) was studied in south-western Iran. The weevil is monovoltine in this region and under field conditions adult weevils aestivate about mid-May. Eggs were collected from lucerne stems during early February, and larval activity commenced in late February and extended into early April. Peak larval populations were observed in mid-March. During this period, 92-100% of lucerne plants at different locations were infested with 5 larvae or more per bud.
