Biopsy of Onchocerca nodules in the Igbos of Nigeria

, : Biopsy of Onchocerca nodules in the Igbos of Nigeria. American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene 24(4): 708-709

Of approximately 5,000 biopsies from Igbos received in 4.5 years at a central laboratory in Nigeria, 90 contained Onchocerca. 54 males and 36 females were infected. The 2 youngest patients were aged 3 years and the oldest about 70. Of the 79 single-site biopsies, 14 nodules were on the head and 65 elsewhere; 42 were above the waist and 37 below it. The favorite locations were the forehead and the hip.
