Biotype L, ninth biotype of the Hessian fly

, : Biotype L, ninth biotype of the Hessian fly. Journal of Economic Entomology 71(3): 458-460

Biotype L of Mayetiola destructor (Say) was isolated from a greenhouse population of biotype D in studies in Indiana by both progeny and single-egg selection. Biotype L was able to survive and infest wheat cultivars having the Ribeiro (H5 gene) source of resistance at 15-21 deg C. Though these cultivars were resistant to the 8 previously known biotypes of the cecidomyiid, the number of possible biotypes was currently 16.
