Clinical effect and mechanism of action of vitamin U (S-methylmethionine sulphonium chloride) in gastric and duodenal ulcers

, : Clinical effect and mechanism of action of vitamin U (S-methylmethionine sulphonium chloride) in gastric and duodenal ulcers. Terapevticheskii Arkhiv 48(3): 29-35

Patients with gastric and duodenal ulcer were in 3 groups given "vitamin U" (S-methylmethionine sulphonium chloride), 300 mg daily, without or with complex medical treatment or the complex treatment without vitamin U for 25 to 30 days. By day 5 of treatment pain had disappeared in 13 and by day 20 in 33 of the 50 patients given only vitamin U. Given in combination with the drug treatment vitamin U stopped the pain more quickly than when given alone or when the drugs were given alone.
