Compensatory growth in immature sheep. 3. Feed utilization by sheep subjected to feed deprivation followed by realimentation

, : Compensatory growth in immature sheep. 3. Feed utilization by sheep subjected to feed deprivation followed by realimentation. Journal of Agricultural Science 85(2): 215-220

3. Thirty-one digestion trials were done during the trial described in the preceding abstracts. Energy and N retention of sheep refed from 26 to 45 kg bodyweight were compared with those of continuously fed sheep; feed intakes and rates of liveweight gain were compared and the efficiency of energy utilisation was calculated. In comparison with normal growth there was an increase of 46% in rate of gain during refeeding, but no increase in daily feed intake for unit metabolic weight (W0.734).
