Compensatory growth in weaner heifers

, : Compensatory growth in weaner heifers. Tussock Grasslands and Mountain Lands Institute Review (30): 23-25

Results of a trial with 20 Angus weaner heifers showed that early turnout in spring had caused only slight detriment to liveweight at 20 months and suggested that where heifer replacements were not mated until 27 months of age, considerable savings in hay during the 1st winter could be obtained by turning out the heifers 6 weeks before pasture growth began in the spring.
