Digestive illness in the calf associated with noncoagulation of cows' milk
Johnston, W.S.; Maclachlan, G.K., 1977: Digestive illness in the calf associated with noncoagulation of cows' milk. Veterinary Record 101(16): 325-326
A clinical condition known in N. Scotland as 'full bellied scour', occurs during the winter months among single suckled beef calves aged 1-3 wk. The condition is characterized by abdominal distension. Post mortem examination reveals the abomasum, and sometimes the underdeveloped rumen, distended with unclotted milk. Clotting times of milk samples from the dams of 12 such dead calves were all >1 h; these milks only clotted normally on addition of CaCl2 solution.
