Economics of potato growing

, : Economics of potato growing. Ekonomika Sovetskoi Ukrainy (6): 28-37

An investigation into the economic efficiency of potato cultivation in the kolkhozy of the Ukraine in the period 1965-1974 showed that, despite the declining labour input per quintal, there was a steep rise in unit costs (from 4.88 roubles in 1965 to 8.13 roubles in 1974). As a consequence, in years in which average yields are below 100 quintals/ha. there are now considerable losses.
