38 Holstein-Friesian, 30 Ayrshire, 6 Guernsey and 2 Jersey heifers were divided into 2 groups averaging 10.2 and 19.2 mth of age resp. at the start of the experiment. Control heifers in the 2 groups were given diets containing 0.25-0.27 and 0.10-0.13% phosphorus resp., while treated heifers in both young and older groups were given diets containing 0.4% phosphorus. Blood phosphorus and calcium levels were measured every 2 wk.
