During 1971-72 an analysis was made of promising hybrids of tomato and egg plant. The highest dry-matter content was shown by the F4 tomato Donetsk 3/2-1 X Vesennii michurinskii 1 and lines 5 and 9 of the hybrid (200/4 X Shatilovskii 35) X Madara. A high content of ascorbic acid and sugar was shown by the F2 tomato Vesenii michurinskii 1 X Vineland 6513.
