Fungistasis, lysis and survival of Pyricularia oryzae and Helminthosporium oryzae in soil

, : Fungistasis, lysis and survival of Pyricularia oryzae and Helminthosporium oryzae in soil. Phytopathologische Zeitschrift 89(1): 60-67

Mycelia of P. oryzae and H. oryzae (Cochliobolus miyabeanus) failed to grow on natural soil and were lysed within 6-12 days of exposure. Conidial germination was also inhibited. These effects could be reduced by autoclaving the soil or adding organic nutrients and fertilizers. Conidial germination in natural soil was stimulated by root exudates of rice and non-host plants. Conidia of P. oryzae were completely lysed within 20 days of exposure to soil.

Natural food odours elicit different behavioural responses in snails.
