Further studies of naturally acquired leprosy in wild armadillos

, : Further studies of naturally acquired leprosy in wild armadillos. Abstracts of the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology 78: 328

50 wild armadillos have been found with naturally acquired leprosy. 47 infected animals were found among 459 examined from 11 locations in Louisiana while 1 positive animal was found among a group of 61 from eastern Texas. 2 positive animals were from unknown locations in Louisiana. Microbiologically and histopathologically the disease is indistinguishable from human leprosy.
