Future tasks and costs of agriculture in the industrial nations

, : Future tasks and costs of agriculture in the industrial nations. Industriegesellschaft im Wandel: 119-128

Based on characteristics of agricultural policy and agricultural economics and the special features of the agricultural sector in the national economy of industrial nations, the following are dealt with: (1) the role of the agricultural sector in the future, increasing dispersal of functions in the livestock production sector, lessening significance of the family farm and the farmer's way of life in comparison with urban living standards; (2) costs in the agricultural sector: (a) public expenditure, and (b) consumer expenditure as a balance between domestic and world market prices; estimates for the EC show that the cost of EC agricultural policy to consumers and tax payers in 1966/67 accounted for 55% of the gross domestic product for agriculture.
