Genetic and phenotype variations in shape and size of udder in four breeds of Indian dairy cattle

A total of 1236 cows of the Sahiwal (S), Red Sindhi (RS), Haryana (H) and Ongole (OG) breeds on 12 farms were studied. Incidence of (i) bowl-shaped, (ii) round, (iii) funnel-shaped and (iv) pear-shaped udders was respectively 69, 0.7, 9 and 15% in S, 78, 3, 7 and 12% in RS,87, 1, 8 and 4% in H, and 71, 14, 13 and 2% in OG cows.
