Genetics of vitamin E content of corn grain

, : Genetics of vitamin E content of corn grain. Dissertation Abstracts International, B 34(12): 5776B

Modifications of two methods for the analysis of vitamin E were developed: (1) a fluorescence method for vitamin E and (2) a colorimetric method for gamma -tocopherol. Both methods use a direct saponification step which considerably reduces the assay time. In eight out of ten hybrids, maternal effects for gamma -tocopherol/g dry weight were found. Maternal effects were still apparently present in the F3, suggesting that they may be cytoplasmic in nature.
