Membrane preparations from lactating mammary tissue catalysed the transfer of N-acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) from UDP-LcNAc into a number of glycolipids and glycoproteins. When one of these glycolipids (N,N'-diacetyl-hitobiosyl-lipid) was incubated with GDP-mannose (GDP-Man) in the membrane preparation, radioactivity was transferred into ligosaccharide-lipids.
