Interactions between IAA, potassium, and malate accumulation, and growth in Avena coleoptile segments

, : Interactions between IAA, potassium, and malate accumulation, and growth in Avena coleoptile segments. Zeitschrift fur Pflanzenphysiologie 76(5): 450-455

Coleoptile segments from etiolated oat seedlings were used to study the interactions between IAA-stimulated growth and ion transport mechanisms. IAA-induced elongation growth was accompanied by stimulation of an ion anti-transport mechanism exchanging 1 K+ taken up for 1 H+ released, with a concomitant accumulation of one half malate2-. The transport mechanism showed a high K+:Na+ selectivity.
