Mortality in breeding cows due to hypomagnesaemia, and its control

, : Mortality in breeding cows due to hypomagnesaemia, and its control. Gaceta Veterinaria 38(308): 75-80

This preliminary report describes the control of the disorder in a large herd of Aberdeen Angus cows on an estate in the Province of Santa Fe, Argentina. Cases were first seen in May 1971, when several cows, near to calving or newly calved, were found dead. P.M. and laboratory studies were negative and a mineral imbalance was suspected. Mineral supplements were given with satisfactory results. In May 1972 the disorder reappeared with 32 sudden deaths. Altogether 67 cows died.
