In a study of four wheats and two barleys, the roots of the wheat Odessa 16 and the barley Yuzhnyi assimilated nitrogen and phosphorus ions most rapidly in the early stages of development, while the more intensive barley Nutans 244 and wheats Odessa 51 and Priboi had the highest rate of uptake at the end of the growth period.
