Rate of adoption of chemical suckercides in Rhodesia

, : Rate of adoption of chemical suckercides in Rhodesia. Rhodesia Agricultural Journal 75(2): 35-36

By 1960 Rhodesian tobacco farmers had largely ceased to use suckering oils first introduced in 1953. Research on the effectiveness of improved chemicals (suckercides) began in the 1971-72 season in Rhodesia, and by June 1974 recommendations for rates and methods of application on Rhodesian tobacco crops had been approved. This was first advertized in 1974 Tobacco Research Board farmers' meetings. A limited amount of the chemical was available for the 1974-75 season, all of which was used.
