Rational methods for predicting quality and digestible energy concentration of warm-season forages for ruminants

, : Rational methods for predicting quality and digestible energy concentration of warm-season forages for ruminants. Dissertation Abstracts International, B 37(7): 3168

In trials with 43 hays of Paspalum dilatatum, Cynodon dactylon and Digitaria decumbens and 9 of lucerne, acceptable predictions of digestible energy for 10 grass hays were based on DOM and DCP conc. in herbage. Acceptable predictions of digestible DOM were made for all hays by adding neutral-detergent solubles and in vivo digestible neutral detergent fibre (NDF) ash and subtracting a constant 10.3 for metabolic faecal OM, all on DM basis.
