Rearing and transmission techniques for Haplaxius sp. (Hom.: Cixiidae), a suspected vector of lethal yellowing disease of coconuts

, : Rearing and transmission techniques for Haplaxius sp. (Hom.: Cixiidae), a suspected vector of lethal yellowing disease of coconuts. Annals of Applied Biology, 892: 173-176

A species of Haplaxius from Jamaica, which appears to be either H. crudus (Van D.) or H. cocois (Fennah), is common in the adult stage on the foliage of coconut palms in Jamaica and Florida and is a suspected vector of the causal agent of lethal yellowing disease. The nymphs, which are subterranean, were found on the roots of grasses and were mass-reared in the laboratory in Jamaica, by a method that is described, on the roots of Stenotaphrum secundatum, Axonopus compressus and Cynodon spp.
