Recurrence of rRNA cistrons in heterotic plant hybrids

, : Recurrence of rRNA cistrons in heterotic plant hybrids. Tsitologiya i Genetika 10(4): 312-316

The results are presented of a study of wheat and maize hybrids and their parents which involved the molecular hybridization of DNA with rRNA. The male parent of the maize hybrids Slava (VIR38) markedly exceeded the female parent (VIR44) in its content of rDNA cistrons. The hybrid exceeded its parents in this respect. In the wheat hybrids, heterosis was found in those cross combinations where the parental forms differed in their content of rRNA cistrons, e.g.
