Red squirrel

, : Red squirrel. Forest Record, Forestry Commission, UK (101): 36

Describes Sciurus vulgaris, its distribution in Britain, habits and life history. Seeds, buds of leaves and flowers, pollen, young shoots and leaves, and sappy tissue of Pinus sylvestris are the most important food source, but other conifers and broadleaved species are also used. S. vulgaris can cause severe damage, especially to conifers by stripping bark or removing buds and shoots from young trees.

Three pruning systems were also compared in the experiment.
