A review of the intensive culture of apples and pears in the Netherlands. Apples, chiefly cvs Golden Delicous, Jonathan and Belle de Boskoop, are grown on M.9 rootstocks planted at 3 X 1 m to 3.5-1.5 m (except for the strong growing Belle de Boskoop which is planted at 1.75 m within the row) and pruned as slender spindles.
