A study was made of working conditions in a 40-stall rotary herringbone parlour in the German Democratic Republic, operated by 3 work teams on a 2-shift system (8.30-18.00, 20.30-6.00). The work sequence was divided into 3 stages: A. cleaning the udder and examining a secretion sample (1 man); B. putting on the cluster (1 man); C. hand stripping, removing the cluster and emptying the recorders (4-6 men).
