Results of investigations on sexual maturity in the progeny of Charolais, Simmental and Hereford bulls crossed with German Black Pied cows

, : Results of investigations on sexual maturity in the progeny of Charolais, Simmental and Hereford bulls crossed with German Black Pied cows. Tierzucht 29(9): 398-400

Age at sexual maturity of 15 German Black Pied (GBP) heifers averaged 239.7 days v 311.1, 324.3, 328.7, 346.4 and 387.6 days resp. for 16 Hereford X GBP, 14 Simmental X GBP, 15 Charolais X GBP, 8 Simmental and 25 Charolais females , the only significant difference being between purebred GBPs and all other breeds and crosses. Body weight at sexual maturity was significantly lower in GBP (204.8 kg) and Hereford X GBP females (247.5 kg) than in other breeds and crosses (276.1-331.6 kg).
