In studies near Shoumen in the Pleven District of Bulgaria, the best combined pre-planting seed treatment for sugar-beet to protect the crop from attack by the weevil Bothynoderes punctiventris (Germ.) and the black root rot fungus was a combination of an emulsion containing 25% phorate (Thimet) at 2 litres/100 kg seed and the fungicide Merpan 75 at 600 g/kg seed.
