Results of recent experiments on chemical ripening of sugarcane

, : Results of recent experiments on chemical ripening of sugarcane. Proceedings of the 51st Annual Congress, South African Sugar Technologists' Association: 30-35

Of 6 potential chemical ripeners screened in 2 field experiments, only Embark at 0.5-1.0 kg a.i./ha and Am74/A382 (composition unspecified) at 0.5-2.0 kg a.i./ha justified further testing. In several experiments, varying rates of these chemicals and of the standard ripener Ethrel at 1.0 kg/ha were applied to sugar cane of different ages, and in different months, at the start of the milling season. Am74/A382 had effects similar to those of Ethrel.
