Results of research carried out in 1971-5 in the Ukraine and Moldavia on physiology and biochemistry of nutrition, growth processes and biologically active compounds, water status, biological role of trace elements in plants, symbiotic N fixation, increasing the N-fixing productivity of legumes and nature of resistance in plants to unfavourable environmental conditions and ionizing rays are briefly described and guidelines for future research in 1976-80 are given.
