Results of research into intraspecific and interspecific hybridization of Karelian birch

, : Results of research into intraspecific and interspecific hybridization of Karelian birch. Vopr lesoved i lesovodstva v Karelii: 178-194

Karelian birch is a morphologically distinct form of Betula pendula which includes trees with figured and normal types of wood in a single population. When trees with figured wood were crossed inter se, they gave > 20% progeny with normal wood, but when they were crossed with normal B. pendula, up to 90% of the progeny had normal wood. Interspecific hybrids between Karelian birch and B. pubescens were studied.
