Results of shelterwood cutting in Western Hemlock

, : Results of shelterwood cutting in Western Hemlock. USDA Forest Service Research Paper, Pacific Northwest Forest and Range Experiment Station (PNW-201): ii + 25

A final report summarizing the results of three-stage shelterwood harvesting in a 60-year-old Tsuga heterophylla stand in W. Washington. Twelve overstorey densities, ranging from b.a. 38 to 235 ft2/acre, were established after the first felling in 1960-61. Two years after final felling in 1968-69, all the treatment areas were heavily overstocked with seedlings. Brush was adequately controlled by overstorey densities of at least 90 ft2/acre.
