In the F2 and F3 of a cross between the Japanese form HOR2275 and the variety Bernburg 34546/58, differing from each other in straw length and frost resistance, the two characters showed intermediate quantitative inheritance and only a weak negative correlation (r = -0.27); in the F6 the correlation was r = -0.15. For purposes of early selection, the correlation of r = 0.66 observed between lamina length of the second seedling leaf and final straw length may prove useful.
