Results of testing line combinations of ducks at Wriezen Duck Farm belonging to the State Inland Water Fisheries, Frankfurt (Oder)

The rapid development of commercial broiler ducks in the German Democratic Republic in the last decade has brought about a deterioration in carcass quality and food utilisation efficiency. In 1971 and 1972, the performance was compared of 206 groups of indigenous and imported ducks belonging to 6 breeding lines and 35 two-way and 29 three-way crosses. As regards laying performance, about half the groups achieved the target of 70% egg production over the 180-day laying period.
